Ordered extra spicy and it had none. Food was bland and boring. For NY it was poor at best. Never again

Good food and quick delivery. Seems to be one of the better, less expensive options in the area.

Great food and prompt delivery!!!

I ordered and after an hour i called and they said order was on its way but it never came

Bland, heavy, soggy. Nevertheless, every few months I somehow talk myself into thinking this place isn't so bad. Alas, it is.

I would not order from here again. General Tsao's chicken was average. Walnut Prawns were not good and are not what you expect. Avoid. Vegetarian Lo Mein was decent.

fast and good

Food arrived quickly, noodles were good and fresh, however, pretty salty. Fried dumplings were also very good. Bothe times we ordered from here very late at night before closing and food was still good. Would definitely recommend them highly

Eel was kind of fishy but overall not bad!

Semi-descent, suburban-style predictably average Chinese/Japanese food. Not high on my list of places from which to re-order.

Don't get the negative reviews here. It's Chinese delivery (FAST) normal priced, but big portion sizes. Usually my dinner becomes my next day lunch as well. I order at least 1-2 times ever 2weeks. Delivery is fast enough, Food is tasty, Rice cooked perfect, Ingredients (veggies) seem very fresh and not frozen. Sauces seem to be house-made and not out of a can, I mostly go for Pork or Chicken Dumplings, Sesame Chicken, Sweet & Sour Dishes (Pork or Chicken) Pretty happy with that place, also delivers until late hours.

The steamed dumplings were a bit doughy but fine. The fried dumplings were just greasy. The corn soup is also fine, and nice that you can order it for one, since many places require that you order it for two. The General Tseng's Historic Chicken should remain historic. It is very greasy, and relatively bland. Everything else I've ordered from here has been a good example of its kind.

Good" American style" Chinese food.

really great lo mein!

I ignored empire Szechuan for years as "yet another" average ny Chinese joint. But you know something? After numerous extremely disappointing meals from other uws Chinese restaurants, I've come to regard empire as consistent, reliable and pretty darn good for standard Americanized Chinese. So when we're not in the mood for authentic Szechuan, this has become our standby. And the food is substantially better at the restaurant (common) which is why it's survived so long and is still crowded.

Horrible sesame chicken made of some reformed chicken extruded chunks. Barely fit for dog food. I'll never order from The restaurant again.

We order quite a bit from this location. Nothing fancy, but I think it is the best take out Chinese in the area.

Best lunch special around.

Absolutely terrible customer service. So rude that i decided to cancel my order

Disgusting. I got barely cooked vegetables with a little salt on top. Slimy soup. Oily meat. Went straight into the trash. Never again.

Horrific

Very much like their diet menu -- protein and veggies cooked well, with ginger and garlic in many cases. Can't speak to the whole menu here, but that part keeps me ordering again and again.

Terrible food and service. Hygiene grade is B

Not nearly as good as the food in the restaurant.

I mistakenly order from here once every couple of months. There's no flavor to anything, I throw most of food away. I wish there was a button that "ignore'd" this restaurant.

They must have a new Chinese chef because the food has gotten much better lately. They listen to any special instructions and call if there's a question. Food comes surprisingly quick and always hot. I'm writing this review only because most people gripe about things... and they deserve some credit. The Empire restaurant on Broadway and 100th is terrible (especially when compared to this one).

Terrible restaurant. Inflexible with reasonable requests. Made a significant mistake and demanded that I work through Seamless instead of trying to resolve it on its own. Poor business practices; would not order from here again.
Posted 5 years ago by Ryan J.
Has called me before to assert the cost of subbing in brown rice -- when they had to switch in white because they were out of brown, though, no call, and no credit! (I can't eat brown rice -- I have a high A1C level that I'm trying to get down. I would have canceled the rice altogether). Combined with a substandard deveining process that leaves me to finish the job at least once a lunch, I'm seriously considering dropping these guys from my list.

I ordered food at 5:30 pm with a delivery estimate of 20-35 minutes, and by 7:20 pm the food STILL had not arrived. I called THREE times and was told the food was in its way when clearly it was not. Each time I was hung up on before the issue was resolved. When I tried to cancel the order during the third call as I was late for a party the woman on the phone hung up on me again. I am a longtime customer and will NEVER be ordering from here again.

The food was appalling and went straight to the trash. Will never order again. Stay away.

Standard Chinese place - I'm satisfied with everything I've gotten here.
Posted 5 years ago by Mike L.
Horrible soup.. The rice noodles were not cooked properly and my little one almost chocked on this.. I ordered these rice noodle soups since my daughter wanted some warm broth for her cold. But it was a disappointment and the order arrived an hour late. I was surprised since we have actually ordered food here a couple of times before and found it to be pretty decent.

Flavorless bland food.

Bubble tea tasted like water. Fried dumplings were soggy and tasted microwaved.

This place has good food & fair prices but their obnoxious delivery person insulted me at my door. He called me cheap. I guess he didn't like his more than adequate tip. Now I feel bad for even giving one in the first place. Who has time after a long day at work to deal with attitude from a delivery person. Look someplace else.

I'm usually not harsh with my idea of "takeout chinese" but the food here was just gelatinous and lacked flavor. The scallion pancakes had green flecks but no scallions, the eggplant with garlic sauce was greasy and somehow neither salty nor sweet, and in general nothing was satisfying or tasty. We had to throw the whole order out after a few half-hearted bites.

Horrible "Fast Food" Chinese. If you're looking for that standard, NYC chinese food—you know the stuff, it ain't the fanciest, it's always exactly the same—this is NOT it. The broth for the Wonton Soup was just water. No flavor at all. The "boiled" (not steamed!) dumplings, were gummy and the sauce was like half a cup of salt an fish sauce. The pork fried rice had dead, tired grey pork instead of that delicious barbecued (red!) pork. The pork lo-mein was medicore at best. General Tso's chicken was actually tasty, but it doesn't save this horrible meal! Do not order from!

Food was barely edible, but really not tasty. Quality has gone down dramatically from what I remember.
Posted 5 years ago by Rahul J.
Order was incorrect and restaurant would not give me credit for TWO wrong items in my order. If I had time to waste to wait for corrected order and go back down to pick it up, I would, but I didn't today. They were not flexible and I will not be ordering from them again- their customer service is terrible.

The Sechuan Style tofu (also known as Mapo, but without the pork) is THE BOMB. As is the Home Style tofu. Do it tofu. Do it fo' you.

What happened?! These guys were good but food quality went downhill in the few months...sad. The sushi does not look as fresh or solid as it used to...The main dishes are greasier, blander, and not as fresh as they used to be.
Posted 5 years ago by Jesus G.
I haven't tried the Chinese food (which is why I gave 4 stars) but their sushi is great. Fast delivery, too.

On 4/17 I ordered from Empire Szechuan. This is the worst food I HAVE EVER HAD in NYC! My boyfriend and I were up all night SICK!

Delivery was fast and accurate. Food was great quality. Flavors seemed a bit bland/flat for my tastes.

Food was not fresh. There was a distinct rotten flavor all around.

The customer service was great - I called for their opinion on what to order and they were super patient. My food arrived within 20 minutes and was delicious. I will definitely order from here again
Posted 5 years ago by edward n.
Good food overall. Good vegetarian selection (try the mock chicken with eggplant in garlic sauce). I called to give out some order specifics and the girl on the phone was extra nice and patient. Definitely order from them again.

If you take it for what it is, Chinese delivery, you won't have a complaint. Very fast delivery. The egg roll was very good for delivery. I also thought the empire sesame chicken had good flavor.
Posted 6 years ago by Sam W.
By far one of the fastest deliveries I have ever gotten, especially after some slow Chinese places in the neighborhood. Only tried the General Tso's chicken, which was quite good. Prices are a bit high, but other than that very impressed with my first experience with this restaurant.
amazing Zen section for vegetarians. Fast delivery, even on Xmas!

Very average. Small portions. With all the other Chinese food options in this city, I won't be ordering from here again.

Food is bland and delivery took longer than reasonably expected (good weather, off-peak time and still took over an hour). Skip it.

really mediocre food... but at least they are open late
Posted 6 years ago by Yuxi Q.
BEST delivery Chinese food on the UWS. It is fast and delicious! We always order from here when we want Chinese; our favorites include the pork dumplings and the cold noodles. Not sure about other people's experiences, but we've never had any complaints in 3+ years.
Posted 6 years ago by Kate M.
the pork over rice is good, the chow fun is really nice and I think the shrimp with lobster sauce is pretty decent. decent egg drop but terrible hot and sour soup.
Posted 7 years ago by Adam L.
Vegan or "zen" is great.

Better than your average neighborhood Chinese, with a good Japanese selection as well. Good for eat-in or take-out..
Posted 7 years ago by Arunas G.
great corn soup, egg foo young, sesame chicken, egg rolls and scallion pancakes.
Posted 7 years ago by Lisa T.
The "Taste of Zen" dishes use seitan as the protein. IF you like the texture of seitan, those dishes are delicious. Try their version of sesame chicken. Haven't been disappointed with anything else on the menu, though we haven't tried anything off of the Japanese/Sushi menus.

quick delivery.....average west side chinese...no complaints or praise.....seaseme chicken b- pad thai c+
Posted 10 years ago by david b.
Very disappointing. Just finished our attempt to eat our order. All 3 entrees ordered were rubbery and were barely warm. It was as if the food had just been re-heated in the microwave and delivered. Completely disappointing. Avoid!!!
Posted 10 years ago by Tyler D.
I've ordered from Empire several times. The food has always been adequate, nothing special but fine if you want Chinese. But today they (1) brought me the wrong item completely (General Tso's instead of General Tseng's) and (2) the items were made with tons of MSG when I specifically asked for no MSG. I won't be ordering from Empire again.
Posted 11 years ago by Aliah G.
Good basic chinese food. Generally fast and efficient service. I've ordered from here many times without complaints.
Posted 11 years ago by Elizabeth B.
Bland, tasteless dumplings-too doughy.....the V-chicken schezuan dish was okay-more celery than one would care for. there are better chinese restaurants to order from.
